Duvel Moortgat Acquires Liefman's With Plans to Restart Production

In a $7.1 million deal Duvel Moortgat Brewery of Belgium is buying the assets of Liefmans Brewery of Oudenaarde, Belgium. Liefmans, founded in 1770, had declared bankruptcy and stopped production in late 2007.

As part of the deal Duvel now owns all of the machinery, brands and recipes for making Liefmans brown ales and fruit beers. The beers will go back into distribution shortly.

Duvel is negotiating for the Oudenaarde site and plans to revitalize the visitors center at the brewery.
