Government officials in Rochester, N.Y., hope to snag enough state and federal grant money to put the High Falls Brewing Co. in the energy business. Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks used her State of the County address this week to lay out the plan to build an ethanol plant.
Monroe County hopes to help High Falls Brewery attract state and federal funds to build a $3 million research and production plant, which would take brewery waste and turn it into ethanol. Brooks said the plant could produce 300,000 gallons of ethanol annually to help fuel brewery and county vehicles. Any excess product would be sold to local residents.
If the fundraising is successful, construction would begin in January 2008.
