Consumers Group Slams Czech Government Decision to Sell Budvar
Plans by the Czech government to privatize Budejovicky Budvar is being criticized by the European Beer Consumers Union (EBCU).
The EBCU says the sale of the brewery could result in lower quality Budvar on the market. The group is also concerned that Anheuser Busch, which has had a long running legal battle with Budejovicky Budvar over the Budweiser trademark, could bid for the brewer.
The Czech government announced it is considering the possible sale of Budvar, the country's third largest brewer, as a way to raise funds to close a budget gap.
