Day 348 Drink: Great Divide Smoked Baltic Porter
Great Divide Brewing is one of the places I look forward to visiting when I am in Denver for the Great American Beer Festival. They host an annual bash on the afternoon before the Thursday evening GABF kickoff session. It is the place to reconnect with old friends and get introduced to some industry luminaries. They also pour a great lineup of house beers.
Great Divide Smoked Baltic Porter pours a rich dark color with a huge head. The brewery uses German malts and hops, including the addition of Bamberg smoked malt. The 6.2 percent alcohol by volume beer has a mild smoke aroma. The flavor has a coating malt base and a nice mellow smoke overtone that is more roasted than heavy. A nicely built beer.
